This is the first KFJC fundraising CD. All tracks were recorded live at the first Summer Surf show on campus, and originally broadcast July 16, 1994.

CD is mislabeled with two track 14s however there are 21 tracks.

A rockin' show, best recording of "Soul Surfin'" by The Mermen!

I got my copy from KFJC decades ago. One of the treasures in my collection. I saw this show, in room F-12 or whatever it was, at Foothill College, 1994. This version of "Soul Surfin'" is a complete guide on how to write instrumental music. Not unlike that Louis Armstrong song about jazz. Get the skins going, set the beat, then bring in the bottom end, then the melody, with gnarly reverb pedaled in for emphasis. (Louis left that part out)

There are other recordings of this Jim Thomas composition, but this is the best. At this point, Mr. Thomas had 3 different cables from the 3 pickups on his Strat, going to separate pre-amps. The distortion-drenched sound of the "Glorious, Lethal, Euphoria" album was knocking on the door, but most of the material was from "Krill Slippin'" and "Food For Other Fish". It was LOUD.

The Insect Surfers and The Woodies are confident and give a good account of themselves, but this is when the Mermen should have gotten an even bigger break. They were hooked-up, dialed-in and I bought my first copy of "Food For Other Fish" after this show. It changed my life, for the better. If you like this, you should look for "Live At The Haunted House" and some of the 'official bootleg' discs from mid to late 1990s. Good as the studio recordings are, and they are VERY good, their live shows were even better. You can hear it here.
